Alexander Alexander was born in the latter part of the 18th century in Dundonald, Ayrshire. In this volume he recounts his experiences in Scotland and as a young man in the West Indies, and on his return to Scotland his enlistment in the army, and his experiences on military service in Ceylon, followed by his return to the West Indies (Barbados), and Demerara (now in Guyana).
